Homestead Handles got its start in 2002 when it first started as a basket shop, Bittersweet Baskets and Supply. It started mainly as a group of friends with a common interest in basket-weaving. Soon owner Pat Vogler began teaching others different techniques of basket weaving.
Pat taught basket-weaving classes of 10 to 12 people at the basket shop which is located on Pat’s small farm in Warrenton, MO. She also began selling basket patterns and kits.
Along with full time basket weaving, the shop also grew into a woodworking supply shop. In 2007, Pat recruited her husband John to help expand the business by beginning to supply ash bases for basket weavers everywhere!
In 2013, Pat and John Vogler acquired Homestead Heirlooms, an established leather handle business based out of Wisconsin. With this addition, Bittersweet Baskets changed their name to Bittersweet Baskets & Homestead Handles and began offering leather handles, bag finishing hardware, and accessories to complete their basket product offerings.
And now in 2019 the business has become just Homestead Handles and streamlined its offerings to focus on leather handles, purses, accessories and more as Pat’s daughter Madelyn takes over the business. Mattie is excited to continue this new venture with all of Pat’s loyal customers and looks forward to bringing you new products and offerings soon!
